Writing
Whether you need ad copy written for your business, or a professional speech with little time to compose the words, I can assist you.
One of my favorite opportunities was writing a speech for the father of a bride. I was sworn to secrecy since he did not tell his wife he had hired a professional to write the speech for him. Though the gentleman was regularly in front of crowds of people as a magician and comedian, he just was too nervous to write anything for his daughter’s reception. Understanding his sense of humor, I was able to craft the speech in a way that was touching, yet comical as the guests would have expected from him!
Having several friends and acquaintances in my life who have suffered traumatic brain injuries has given me insight into the struggle those with this type of disability live with each day. I have written a modified speech for a professional person who had suffered a stroke more than twenty years prior and who had overcome many challenges because of the brain injury. The speech was modified by carefully crafting the sentence structure to avoid using syllables that would create a slurring of words. The speech was printed on index cards and interjected with symbolic images to remind the speaker that it was time to use a prop, thus avoiding stumbling over losing a place in the wording.
Editing
Perhaps you, too, enjoy the art of writing. If you can read, then it is quite possible you have noticed errors made by others in printing, either in the daily newspaper or in a playbill at the theatre. Even a seasoned writer will miss errors, hence the importance of using an editor. Sure, modern software offers editing tools, but there is nothing more valuable to a writer than an extra set of eyes to review a document.
Friends and family may be convenient to request their input, but either they will be too forgiving, or too critical. Having a partner to review an important document that will offer constructive feedback is an priceless tool for any writer to employ.
Public Speaking
Linda is available to talk with groups about business and personal communications, social networking and media, successfully raising children as a single-parent, and growing through adversity.
Acting
Acting? Where does acting fit into the services a professional would provide for clients?
As an actor, I have delivered important messages to youth and adults through the medium of live performance and comedy. As a visual learner and parent of children with ADHD, I understand how easy it is to get lost when sitting and listening to a lecture.
Past performances have included playing a character who obviously was lacking in skills needed for a job interview. The character dressed innappropriately for an interview, chewed gum, answered her mobile phone during the staged interview, and presented her resume written on a paper napkin. Of course, the second character revealed a more polished professional who was well prepared to succeed in a career.
This sketch has been used for fundraisers and high school career development classes with great reviews!
If you would like to have a message presented to a professional group or class, call me to discuss the possibilities of creating a sketch that will capture their attention.
